We thought it would be interesting to compare the Over 2 U data from Canada with data from a study Dr. Lauree Tilton-Weaver conducted in Sweden.
We charted the patterns of regulation across the four types of activities: personal, prudential, conventional, and moral. The charts show the percentages of:
- Teens reporting self-regulating
- Teens reporting regulating behaviours with their parents (co-regulating)
- Teens reporting their parents regulate the behaviours.
The results below are interesting. Governance transfer looks fairly similar in the two countries.* In particular, prudential behaviours (those actions that might cause harm to teens such as drinking alcohol or not wearing a helmet) are least likely to be youth-regulated in both countries as compared to the other types of adolescent behaviours.

*In Sweden, there are no grade 6 students in the study. This means we can only compare the grade 7 and 8 students in the two countries.
